2015-flm_gala_IMG_9604ISA Hamilton is pleased to report that it sent two delegates to this year’s 2015 Fall Leaders Meeting / Annual General Meeting of the ISA’s international level.  Held in Louisville, Kentucky, USA the 2015 FLM took place October 9-12, with additional standards committee meetings taking place October 13-14.  ISA Hamilton president Brent Killins and past-president Graham Nasby attended as our representatives this year.

While at the FLM, both Graham and Brent attended geographical district council meetings and the society’s annual general meeting called the Council of Society Delegates.  At the CSD meeting where all of the ISA 100+ local sections were represented, our Eastern Canada Sections all had delegates present. This included the Hamilton, Sarnia, Toronto and Montreal Sections.  On the agenda this year was an update on the society’s strategic plan, a financial report, and confirming the results of the society’s general elections.  Attendees also listed to a year in review presentation by 2015 ISA Society President Rick Roop.

2015-flm_water-wastewater-divisionThe 53rd ISA Honours and Awards Gala was also major highlight at the FLM. Held in the Kentucky Ballroom at the Louisville Downtown Marriott Hotel, the gala featured some 20 outstanding individuals for their technical contributions and long-time society service.

The FLM was also an opportunity for Graham to ensure a smooth transition of leadership in the ISA water/wastewater division.  For the past three years, Graham has been the Director of the ISA’s water/wastewater technical division.  At the FLM, Graham turned over the Directorship of the division to Kevin Patel, a young engineer from Texas, who will now be leading the division.  At the end of the year, Graham will be moving up to the his new role of VP-elect for Industries and Sciences within the ISA.

2015-flm_leadershpi-workshops_IMG_9588Brent also took advantage of his time at the FLM to talk with other section presidents about what types of new member events and services that local ISA Section around the world have been having success with. This included a sizable number of ISA leaders from the UK, Ireland, South America and the middle east.  As a global organization, the ISA has over 100 local sections throughout the world.

Another aspect of the FLM was to participate in strategic planning and leadership workshops to help shape the future direction of the society.  FLM attendees undertook a number of blue-sky planning sessions with the help of Billy Bennet from Pyramid/ODI, as well as focused section and division round table discussions.  Both seasoned and new ISA leaders enjoyed the chance to get together and share notes at the 2015 Fall Leaders Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, USA

To conclude ISA Hamilton’s visit to the FLM, Graham also attended ISA standards committee meetings on Tues, Oct 13 and Wed, Oct 14.  In these meetings Graham continued to contribute to the ISA18 Alarm Management and ISA101 HMI Design standards committees.  Copies of the ISA’s alarm management and HMI design technical reports and standards are available at www.isa.org/standards/
