We are pleased to report that the 2014 District 13 Leadership Conference (DLC) was a resounding success. Over 30 leaders from Eastern Canada gathered in Niagara Falls, Ontario to learn more about the ISA as a society, get an update on recent ISA governance changes, and get a chance to get to know each other in an open and fun environment. Attendees also received an annual “state of the union” update from ISA society treasurer Jim Keaveney via video-conference link, and were treated to a technical presentation on the importance to cyber security risk planning by Eric Cosman, a recognized global expert in cyber security.
During the weekend convergence, attendees enjoyed catered breakfasts, buffet lunches, and a Saturday-night group dinner at a Brazilian-style steakhouse. Later on the Saturday evening and on Sunday afternoon, participants also got a chance to see the local attractions including the Falls themselves, Lundy’s Lane, Clifton Hill, and the recently-opened 175-foot-tall skywheel. Many attendees also toured the Niagara wine region which was only a short drive from the conference hotel.
Thanks to everyone who came. It was a great honour for ISA Hamilton to host the 2014 District 13 leadership conference.
For our current ISA Hamilton section present, Graham Nasby, hosting the Eastern Canada leadership conference was also a highlight of his three year run as VP & president-elect and then 2013-2014 president. “Hosting the DLC, was a great way me to personally give something back to the ISA’s many volunteer leaders,” says Nasby, “In the past five years, a number of ISA leaders took me under their wing to mentor me during my leadership journey. It has been an honour to give something back, and help foster others who are embarking on their own leadership journeys.”
We look forward to attending the 2015 DLC which will be hosted by the ISA Montreal section in May 2015!
